If you already own a domain name, you can connect that domain to your Author Website. To do so, visit the Domain page in your dashboard and select “I already own a domain”. You’ll be prompted with instructions for configuring nameserver records in your domain registrar’s dashboard to connect your domain with your Author Website.
How do I update my domain's nameservers?
Your domain's nameservers need to be updated via your current registrar's dashboard. You can find instructions for updating your nameservers with common domain registrars below:
GoDaddy
Squarespace
Namecheap
Bluehost
Hostinger
WordPress
HostGator
I started connecting my domain to my Author Website. Why does my dashboard say my current status is “Waiting”?’
It can take 1-2 hours for our system to recognize your updated nameserver records once you’ve made the necessary changes. Please make sure that you’ve updated your nameservers per the instructions above. If you’ve updated your nameservers and your site status is still “Waiting” more than three hours after those changes have been made, please reach out to us at authorwebsites@bookbub.com.
I already had a website on my domain and now it’s gone! How do I get it back?
Updating the nameservers for your domain only changes which website your domain address leads to — your other website still exists! To reconnect your domain to your other website instead of your Author Website, log back into your domain registrar and revert the nameserver changes you made.
My domain registrar does not allow me to change my nameservers. How do I connect my domain with my Author Website?
Some domain registrars (like Wix and Cloudfare) do not allow you to change your domain’s nameservers. This means your domain can only be connected to your website via a complete domain transfer. You can learn more about transferring your domain to Author Websites here.
I have an email address set up with my domain. Can I still connect my domain to Author Websites?
Yes! We will automatically detect the relevant records so that you can continue to use your email.
Once your nameservers have been updated, you will be able to manage your DNS records via the DNS records page in your dashboard (you can access this page from Settings > DNS Records).
How much does it cost to connect my domain?
There are no additional costs to connect an existing domain to your website. You’ll continue to be responsible for keeping your domain registered and covering any associated costs through your domain registrar. Visit your Billing page to learn more about the cost of Author Websites.
I don’t want to use my domain for my Author Website anymore. How do I disconnect it?
If you no longer want your domain to be associated with your Author Website, visit your domain registrar and revert your nameservers. Your Author Website will no longer be connected to your domain.
