If you already own your domain name, there are two ways you can connect it to your Author Websites account: you can update certain DNS records with your domain registrar so your domain is pointed to our servers, or you can transfer your domain to Author Websites.
Connecting your domain to Author Websites via nameservers
This is the best option for you if:
- You want to maintain your domain registration with an external registrar
- Your registrar allows nameserver updates
- You want your website connected to your domain quickly (usually within hours)
- You want the flexibility to revert these changes quickly

Transferring your domain to Author Websites
This is the best option for you if:
- You want your domain and website hosting all in one place
- Your current domain registrar does not allow nameserver updates (e.g. Wix or Cloudfare)
- You are happy to wait a bit longer for your website to be connected to your domain (usually 7-10 days)
You should not initiate a domain transfer if you have an upcoming time-sensitive promotion, like a book launch or a newsletter swap.
